Blockchain for RE & FM: Its Relevance

Blockchain technology and products are developing fast and are gradually finding their way into applications that have relevance for RE & FM managers. Examples of these can be found around contract management and demand management. The key questions however are: Is Blockchain for real and should RE & FM professionals take an interest in Blockchain adoption? What unique value does it bring to our business? In this session we will explore these questions and provide some tangible examples of its promise. We will review just what Blockchain is, and what are the possible benefits and concerns in using this technology. We will also discuss what are the possible applications of the technology for Corporate Real Estate & Facilities Management, and finally, how soon it is this coming and what should an FM do to prepare.

Ted Ritter has worked and travelled extensively throughout North America, Europe and Asia. He is the Principal of LMI360, a company that solely supports organizations that support the Built Environment, and Co-Founder of DrawAlert, a technology solution for improving results on Construction Projects. He is the current Global Chair of the IFMA Information Technology Community, a member of the IFMA America’s Advisory Board and a Past President of the Phoenix Chapter. He is a co-author of “The Facility Manager’s Guide to Information Technology”, author of multiple articles and has contributed to over 100 presentations on Best Practices in regards to the use of FM Technology, Sustainability and Brand Management.

​Dean Stanberry, CFM, LEED AP O+M, is a solutions oriented facilities professional with over 20 years of broad-based experience in facilities management, real estate portfolio management, process & quality improvement, procurement, workplace services, program and project management, space & occupancy planning, sustainability, information systems implementation, and critical environment operations. An accomplished communicator, he has presented at international FM conferences, published articles and a contributing author of the book “Technology for Facility Managers.” Dean is an active industry advocate; serving in a number of volunteer leadership roles as a member of the International Facilities Management Association (IFMA), the IFMA Foundation, and the U.S. Green Building council. He currently chairs IFMA’s Environmental Stewardship, Utilities & Sustainability (ESUS) Community.

Simon Davis joined Newmark Knight Frank Global Corporate Services in 2019 as an executive managing director with the Technology Solutions team. Based in Phoenix, Mr. Davis is responsible for global technology business development with a focus on new logo acquisition. He specializes in helping tenants identify the optimal technology solutions that they need in order to manage complex and diverse portfolios and service lines, including facility management, space management, project management, lease administration, transaction management, sustainability and workplace management.
